I have been on several vacations with my family through the years and recently went on a group vacation with five other women to Thailand. I had doubts because we never traveled together, but we all had a great time and are planning other trips for 2017 and 2018. If you’re looking into planning a group vacation with friends or family, here are five tips to keep in mind.
Know the People in Your Group
Are the people going on your group vacation adventure seekers? History buffs? Party Goers? Do they just want to stay by the pool all day? It’s good to know the type of people you’re going on vacation with so you can plan activities, dining arrangements and have an overall good vibe on your trip. If possible, set up a group chat or check in periodically to talk about trip plans.
Plan in Advanced
One of the things that made my group trips so successful is we planned them in advanced. Some were months while others were years. Advanced plans help you search for affordable airfare, save extra money and put in for vacation ahead of time.
Set a Budget
I highly suggest you set a budget for a group vacation. Everyone’s finances aren’t the same so work out a budget that the group is comfortable with. Some things to consider are airfare, hotel, food, transportation, excursions and tipping for services.
Going along with planning and knowing your group, accommodation research is also important when it comes to group vacations. While looking up villa rentals for our family vacation, the house needed to have at least one master bedroom on the ground floor and enough rooms for kids and couples in attendance. Look up different places with your group to make sure the location, costs and amenities work for the majority.
Do Activities for Everyone
Find activities and excursions that everyone can agree on. Part of a group vacation is making sure everyone feels included and has a great time. Be open to trying new things and make sure to take tons of pictures during the trip. You can always do what you want on your next solo trip.
